The thing is we have sources, many of us, but they wish to remain protected...understandably...so it's a catch 22 situation! It is the same on all the forums, and a problem for media too! 0=

When screening for topic argument or feasibility,..
1. A political plooy,

2. Income derived from the gate?

any other input for the sake to sustain this crazy venture???

It is being sold as fitting in with SP's policy of benefits to local communities and the sales job is giving the idea that this gate will promote and benefit businesses in the area. -O-

Thank you for the input iNdy. Lets have more good reasoning why this gate should not
exist.

How about the big one for me, it will completely ruin an incredibly pristine and wild area. I thought the idea behind our parks was to conserve areas such as this. New gate means plentiful new roads gouged through the area where few if any roads exist at the moment.
Apparently the idea is to put up another hotel at the gate outside the park boundary.
It will increase the flow of traffic for those using the park as a thoroughfare to Moz.
I would assume that access to this gate would be through Makuya game reserve on the western side of the park which would entail messing up that reserve as well.

In my book, conservation means to conserve, to protect. But that is ox wagon thinking, it now means to commercialize, generate money at whatever cost to nature.
Aaah what the hell, I'm out 'o here.

I have a horrible thought 0= 0= O-/ O-/ , won't this gate be used for the coal trucks coming from Mapumgubwe on the way to maputo, as there is no other way than by rail and that is a veary busy line O/ O/ O/ O/ O/ .

They want to up production and when I last looked at the figger that they are wanting produce , the rail service will not handle it, It will be alright up till Pretoria but going east will be a major hassel :-? :-? :-? :-?

Mmhhhn I'm quite impressed thus far.

One thing about simple man, it has the
power for creating ideas!!!!!

Some good, some lousy!!

Over the years a process of evaluation was
created to establish norms for reasoning,
the EIA process includes public input, which
I seem to believe would be the base for,....

"The Shangoni Great gate idea??' EIA'S are
very easily applied and applicable. The process
is very open and sometimes not even neccessary!

A process called "screening" establishes whether
there would be any need for a EIA.

Now why would Shangoni ever need a EIA. After all
it's only a gate, that keeps animals in or out!!

The trick is it's all within the new zonation policy, so the gate falls within the "high intensity" 2/3km strip within the Park's borders, and the lodge/s within the 5km "development zone" strip just outside the Park's borders, for which SanParks have applied to be sole controllers.

In both cases EIA's will be hamstrung regarding the "environmental impact", as said impact is no longer in a pristine area, according to the Gospel of SP!

No rezoning has yet been approved by the Minister, however! :-)

Then in this case RP, why waste money elsewhere on EIA's
Richprins wrote:The trick is it's all within the new zonation policy,
Fine with me RP, then let's take this process one level higher to the zonation
policy! PDZ!!
