Phala gate may be different to those in the far south, which have 500 cars passing through them in a day during holiday season. Many times more than 200 queued between 5am and 7am.

How long do you think it will take to search each car properly 10 minutes? That’s 6 cars an hour driving in. Now work this maths out for 200 cars.

Practical security is different to selective

The only solution is sniffer dogs which will take around 2 minutes a car

The rhino poaching and other crimes are more important than our holidays! Nothing wrong with a sacrifice of an hour or two to get in, as long as the same search is conducted on all visitors!

Day visitors will bear the brunt, but so be it. This could also reduce congestion on the roads. To me, a positive in total!

Searching a car properly, even if only 5 minutes will result in the 200th car only getting into the park 16 hours later and if 2 lanes are operating, 8 hours later, therefore not practical.

The cars stand there waiting for hours anyway, BC? Frewells took an hour and a half to get in at Malelane over the last long-weekend, for example!

I reckon selective searches is the way to go...and I also reckon the "cops" will know which vehicles to "select"...

Searching “granny and grandpa”, their car and caravan or a family with a car full of kids, cloths and food isn’t the answer. Selective searching or sniffer dogs for all is the only solution. It’s fairly obvious for any trained good security to selectively choose “suspects”

Can SANParks legally rummage through peoples things anyway as it’s not a border post and what happens when they break peoples things during this process

So, if I need arms and ammo in the park, I pay granny and gramps to take it in for me. Rhino horn coming out, plant it in a car full of kids and wives with pelicans. No security random search will ever find it.

128 new guards have been added at around R6000 per guard per month = R768 000 per month total.

Do you guys think that the majority of rhino horn leaves KNP via the entry/exit gates or could this money be spent better to stop rhino killings

Good question, BC. But, my take is rather tighten the front line and prevent easy access.
