Lovely sighting of the Lions .

The drive along that road as more than lovely with all the causeways

Your TTs never fail to deliver wonderful sighting after wonderful sighting. So many of them would make exquisite wall hangings. Always enjoy catching up.

Now we only could observe the one with the dark mane at least they alternate so one was always to be seen



nevertheless we enjoyed on top the break from driving and although not great action could be seen we enjoyed that sighting



but after 45 minutes and whilst both now laid down flat on the ground we decided it was enough and continued our drive and wished the passengers in the other car who arrived a bit later still good luck.



We did not drive far when we met an OSV and we described them the area where to look out for the lions. Then it was once again time to cross another causeway



and that it why we do love that road that much, the many causeways which always do look so idyllic. We then stopped for a woodland kingfisher,



for a leopard tortoise who crossed the road and then jumped down into the water



and then a nice surprise in form of a spotted thick-knee which was a lifer for us.



Luckily same decided to pose so close to where we stood that it was an even better sighting.



Then another causeway had to be crossed and it looked as if we were somewhere in the jungle





also a three banded plover could again be seen

as well as more white headed vultures,





and lots of European bee eaters.



Unfortunately then the road was already finished and we stood in front of a larger pond at the crossing between the S21 and H4-1 which this year was carrying a lot of water – Simply love that view.



Not far from that lovely spot we found another one on a smaller bridge crossing the Nwatinwambu where still a lot of water was coming down



and luckily our pied kingfisher friend sat already handy on the best spot in order to look out for fish.



At least at this spot already a smaller traffic jam had built up and all the passengers were eager in taking pictures and so we were not the only ones in capturing “just” water birds in form of another pied kingfisher,



the view onto the other side where you could see the smaller river flowing



and from two different hamerkops.





Nevertheless it was a more than a nice stop and for sure lots of other cars went past by and thought we were looking at something “more” interesting than “just” birds.

It was such a lovely drive and the scenery in Kruger during that time of the year is always magnificent

A very handsome black-maned lion and lots of lovely birds.

Both lions had indeed proper manes and for sure the birds were plentiful
