and for a close up but as it was unbearably hot meanwhile they soon disappeared in the shade of the trees and bushes.
Vervets were eying us from trees
and finally we reached the look out point we you are allowed to leave the car and enjoyed the view and to stretch the legs after that long drive so far. We scanned a bit around and noticed a kudu bull in the riverbed.
That view from high above is always worth to stop for a while and to enjoy the slight breeze which is always blowing there.
From the view point the camp was not far any longer and after checking in had been done we moved into our unit No. 5 as requested as this is our favourite in that camp. We walked a bit along the fence and also here enjoyed the view into the dry riverbed and got entertained by the present vervets there
who were grooming in the shade of the trees close to our unit.
Around 16.00 o’clock we packed together and started for our afternoon drive into the direction of the Biyamiti causeway on the S25. Along our way we came across a cute squirrel,
a noisy woodland kingfisher,
a brown snake eagle
and for sure the ever present impalas.

That squirrel was cute but sometimes they are far too fast for a shot

Another red backed shrike was willing to pose
as well as an African fishe eagle.
At the crossing with the S25 we had to wait until a large group of male kudus crossed the road
and started to disappear on the other side to obviously have a walk to the Crocodile river to quench their thirst there.
When we finally reached the causeway everything started to happen very fast – We were admiring hundreds or more impalas grazing in the river bed when they suddenly scattered into different direction I was still wondering what had caused this behaviour when Timon shouted: “Lioness!”
She was coming from the direction of the Crocodile river and came steadily closer into our direction
besides us it was only another car on the causeway and same noticed the lioness as well and for sure
we waited and let her come closer. She looked very determined and nearly looked neither left nor right
and we simply enjoyed the moment and took picture after picture.
Finally she walked under the bridge and without stopping she carried on her walk into the other direction from where she just came although it was still extreme hot in the sun.
We let the other car pass so that the causeway was our again because meanwhile we also noticed in the distance an elephant herd who was strolling along the Crocodile river in the best afternoon light

and for sure we could not turn our eyes from them
until the last elephant was not longer to be seen
then we again checked our lioness out who was still going her own way when Timon shouted: “Look straight ahead!”
And there he was a quite impressive male lion who looked longingly after the lioness who was meanwhile very hard to discover any longer in the riverbed
he obviously smelled her charming fragrance and wanted to check himself out whether it would be worthwhile to follow her.
“Come back – I do have dinner over here!”
He had a more than big belly and indeed looked very well fed
but he did not stop watching into the direction of where the lioness was disappearing. Another car came from behind and we were driving a bit backwards because he might wanted to come closer
but he nearly stood motionless on the bridge and only looked around
with his enormous belly and his mane he was indeed a very striking specimen
Finally he trotted off and right on top of where you have to drive a steep part of the road right behind the bridge he turned into shrubbery and stopped very close to the road as there his kill was lying – a fully grown buffalo!
to be continued....
