Drama Over Snared Kruger Lion,....
as a heading in the world of multi media,...
seems rather separated from the animals destitute,..
almost like "thats life",....!!!!!,.. No more care or worry!!!
End of story,.....

Or just maybe one can add a pinch of salt to the misery,...
For the curator has become a open book, pages of concern!!!!

MMMhhhnhhh I wonder where true concern lies???

Snares in Kruger

Post by Flutterby »

The Kruger National Park Scientific Services Department in partnership with the SANParks Honorary Rangers: Lowveld Region took a stand against snares within the park. A total of 143 snares were removed around the Makoko, Numbi and Phabeni areas on Saturday, 07 July 2018.

The decision to embark on this snare removal exercise is informed by the recent growing trend of snares discovered in the park that inflict bodily harm to animals and can lead to animal fatalities if the cases are presented at an advanced stage of snaring with infections.

It is alleged that snares are set up by people that transgress the rules of the park, for subsistence poaching which can be generally described as the process when snares are put in place to trap and kill animals for food. This is an unethical practice that we continue to warn the public against partaking in.

Please report sightings of snared animals or any suspected illegal activities to the Kruger National Park Emergency Numbers as follows: 013 735 4325, 013 735 4064, 013 735 0197 or 076 801 9679.

That's a good thing to do, but what a lot  Imagine how many there must be if you search the whole perimeter of the park O-/

It is not that bad around the whole park at all, Lis. This area is by far the worst, as huge communities encroach right onto the border and there is not much in the way of fencing left...

Another bad spot is the Punda Maria area...Prinsadam has seen snared lion on two of his last visits there, and there was even a suspected snared rhino! O/

:-) :-) :-) :-)

the lowveld region of the SHRs do this exercise about 6-7 times a year in the same areas

and have sometimes found snared animals while doing the snare removal.

they found a buffalo being quartered once and the poachers dropped the hind quarter and ran off

across the sabie river..

\O well done to all .

Unfortunately there seems to be a flood of snares being set around the parks also in KZN , the local residents believe more and more they have the right to free bush meat 0:
