So ja, a prelude to the camp starting, maybe!
Ja, spotted it when there 3 weeks ago. When I asked I was informed it's a solar plant for Nkuhlu, but definitely too large for just that, so a prelude as you say O**

Tender for privatisation of Picnic site and a new 15 bed camp: 2 March 2017

https://www.sanparks.org/docs/groups_te ... randum.pdf

INTRODUCTION
This Information Memorandum (“Memorandum”) is issued by South African National Parks
(SANParks) in accordance with the guidelines for Public Private Partnerships (“PPPs”)
contained in National Treasury's Tourism PPP Toolkit, and in compliance with Treasury
Regulation 16 issued in terms of the Public Finance Management Act 1999.
In accordance with the Commercialisation Strategy approved by the Board on 29 March 2000, the Nkuhlu picnic site was outsourced in the past
.
However, a change in strategy resulted in SANParks operating this sitefrom 2011. Due to financial losses and inferior product offering at the site, SANParks advertised this opportunity to the Private Sector in 2015 but no valid bids were received. In light of this SANParks re-
assessed the opportunity and added an accommodation offering of 15-beds (in line with the park zoning) to the site and hence this opportunity will again go out to tender inorder to source Private Sector expertise, skills and capital to operate the site successfully. The Facilities will be outsourced as going concerns, under contractual terms that will transfer full operational control to the private operators. In keeping with SANParks objectives, particular attention will be paid to the implementation of broad-based Black Economic Empowerment
and more particularly involvement of land claimants through equity participation. In addition, private operators will have to respect
existing SANParks regulations regarding protection of the environment

The following re staff housing:

4 Single rooms these require renovations including painting inside and outside, replacement of mosquito gauze, and
renovations of bathrooms and showers. There will only be 3 single rooms available to the Private Party as SANParks will use one of these units for the water and power plant operator.

SANParks will renovate the existing facilities to an acceptable standard with any alterations or additions to be for the
operators account
.

The Private Party will be required to submit a Maintenance Plan in which they outline the maintenance schedule that will ensure that the facility stays in a good condition over the full 15year period.

Due to the location of Nkuhlu and distance from the entrance gates SANParks would like to see all the staff staying on site (as far as possible). In light of this it will be advisable for the operator to build additional units at Nkuhlu together with a manager’s house (plans to be approved by SANParks).
SANParks will take over the residual value of the houses that was built after the 15 year period.

The Private Party will not sign a lease agreement for housing and hence no rental will be payable to SANParks but instead
the Private Party will be responsible for the maintenance of all the infrastructure at the Picnic Site

I wonder if they will build the accommodations before receiving an offer or wait -O-
Constituency building towards a people-centred conservation and tourism
mandate
How can this be "conservation"? 0- They must invent a new word :-?

Nkhulu development:
I hope this has not been posted before, but I could not find such posts.
At our visit this past week to the Kruger, I saw a notice of an EIA for a luxury tent development right next to the Nkhulu picnic spot. (See the attached picture of the Notice).
May I please ask that we don’t go into a ‘social media war’ regarding this in the comments section, but rather, if you have strong views regarding this proposed development, that you send an email to a.emery@emross.co.za to register as an interested or even an (potential) affected party. This must be done before 20 June 2021. Ask for a confirmation response in your email, I received such confirmation. It may also be helpful if you can share this info with other Kruger lovers who may not see this post, in case they want to register.
