JHB - Lower Sabie

Carrying on towards Lower Sabie, we couldn't believe the number of Openbills we saw in the riverbed (these were just a few of them)!

Image

The smallest turtle I've ever seen...or the biggest dragonfly! ^0^

We had arrived at Lower Sabie with no delays, and it was only 12.30. We decided to do the paperwork at reception and then wait on the deck with a cold drink until we could fetch the keys. They told us we could try at 1pm to see if the key was ready.

The Brat getting arty on the deck. ;-)

There was quite a lot of activity in the riverbed with buffs, waterbuck and kudu all making an appearance.

Rub-a-dub-dub, three men in a tub. lol

We went back to reception at 1 and were given our key, a whole hour early!! O:V I have to say that all the employees we encountered in the camps were extremely friendly and helpful! \O \O

I have posted these pics in the Camp thread, but we were very impressed with the renovations done to the old dormitory-style bungalows.

After unpacking I went exploring and found this agama with his lunch.

Award-winning turtle pic, Flutts! O\/

Maybe the large number of openbills over the last year has something to do with the drought? :-?

Ja, tough life sitting on the deck there! X#X

JHB - Lower Sabie

For our afternoon drive we decided to head up the H10, cut across on the S29 and back down the S128. First up was a Goliath Heron from the low-level bridge.

I was excited to find my first lifer of the trip - a Squacco Heron. O:V

Tawny Eagle

The H10 and S29 offered up some general game but on the S128 I spotted this very busy chap. :-0

The Brat and I battled to get any good pics as he didn't keep still for a second! :O^

Back at the low-level bridge, a Yellow-billed Egret (I think). :-?

A croc enjoying the late afternoon sun.

We still had quite a bit of time so we headed down the H4-2 and did a little bit of the S28 until it was time to turn around.

This Fish-eagle always hangs around the weir on the H4-2.

A Woolly-necked Stork also on the H4-2.
