Not really comparable IMO. Note that the old TEBA management offered the option for the cottage of booking at either a base rate for 2 or for 4, which SANParks doesn't offer (why am I NOT surprised  ), so clearly "discriminating" against singles and couples for this most desirable camp.

As nan points out, we solo travellers pay a premium for being "alone". :O^ 0'

Ok, leachy visited today, and says the accommodation is quite larney and well done! \O

The base rate for Mockford/Dr is indeed for 4 people!

And one of Mockford's descendants visited the house in October...first name in guestbook, so quite touching! ;-)

Hi Everyone

I am fairly new to this forum and have not posted on it before.
Since I've had the privilege to have been stationed and living full-time in Pafuri from 1987 to 2000, this area is obviously very dear to my heart. Have been the TEBA camp manager for the last 3 years until Oct 2000.
Joep Stevens allowed me to go and stay in my old house (the Doctor's house) for a few days in Nov. 2015, before the place was officially re-opened. It was my first time back there in approx. 7 years. The extend of the devastation of the former oasis was very tough to absorb. ( I guess it was a combination of the place standing empty for so long, the drought, the lack of interest in preserving Mockford's treasured gardens and finally the Parks Board's policy of getting rid of everything exotic!! Even though those carefully selected exotics, many tied to Mockfords travels in Africa, never became a pest or bothered anyone for 60 odd years)
Will in the near future start to post some pictures and would be glad to see this topic staying active. The drives along the Levubu in the early mornings and late evenings is treasures that one can never forget. (I even got married at the picnic spot one very hot evening in December 1999)
Will gladly try to answer any questions regarding this paradise.
Best wishes

Robert, you must tell what it is like, because if we want to see it, we will have to make a stop over. You cannot do Phala/Pafuri return in one day.
