Reply from Pretoriuskop Hospitality Manager 10-11-2011:

My apology for not responding in time, I was out of office.

The Cabinet is not broken; it is how they were designed and they are meant to store only cutlery & crockery. The baboons are mostly attracted to areas where food is stored. We appreciate the comments and will look at amending it.

Now that I have cooled and calmed down I can post this. If I had posted it any earlier I would have been branded a racist. O/

We had our end of year "function" at Letaba this past weekend (Sat 12 Nov). We were 12 adults and about 7 kids of various ages. We had booked into the Safari tents and our plan was to have a communal braai on Saturday evening. This all took place and to my surprise in a very decent well behaved manner. There are a few of the crowd that don't enjoy the park and basically had no option but to be there. The company supplied all the food and beverages, and I was a bit concerned that a few people would get out of hand after one or two too many. This luckily never happened and all went well, until it we decided to call it a night at about 22h00.

Another group from some where else in the camp invaded the pool area and made a hell of a noise until way into the morning. Luckily in the tent the fans were going full speed and drowned most of the outside noise. In the morning the shock really set in, the pool area was littered with booze bottles and items of clothing. The chap that cleans the pool even advised us not to let the kids take an early morning dip as he said that he did not know what type of bodily fluids were in the pool and he was going to over dose it with chemicals.

I didn't take any photos as I was busy with our group and did not want to upset myself even more. I am sure that Letaba Management can control this type of thing and not let it happen. Sorry, but from my side I have no evidence and it will also be my last stay at Letaba or any other camp with a pool in the summer. Luckily I did not pay for the weekend but I am sure that many that did were also offended by what took place.

Reply from Letaba Hospitality manager 17-11-2011:

Thanks for this again. Yes indeed this kind of behaviour is sometimes unpredictable especially a big group of people that might not have visited the Kruger before and have no idea of the norms and regulations required. But be that in any case we also need to be more vigilant and a bit more aggressive sometimes for the benefit of other park users as it affects all the well wishers and people that come here with good intensions. I.E , of wanting tranquillity, peace and of escaping from noisy patens of life outside the park.

I would like to again convey my dismay about this and will definitely have better measures to combat this behaviour in the future. This message will be discussed with our regional management and our regional and local rangers.

I hope you find this reply in order.

We apologize for the ordeal the client has gone through due to tent 2 closing badly and having no key during her stay.

All the tent doors have been checked, repaired and supplied with keys.

We are looking forward to her next visit and believe that she will enjoy it,

Sticks serving as window levers at Nkuhlu. Both in the male and female ablutions, more than one window!

Would you expect a rubbish dump on the outside of a city or town?

Yes.

Would you expect a rubbish dump between Skukuza and Lower Sabie (H1-4), unmanned, burning, polluting?

No! (Alpha loop from Skukuza on the right hand side).

junkie wrote:I am not sure where to ask this question or raise this topic, but every time we visit Satara we have a blocked showerhead where no water comes through to have a nice shower. I take the showerhead off and soak it in boiling water and clean the holes out with tooth pics before showering! Same thing happened now in January. Plus our kettle was so disgustingly built up that I went and buy vinegar to soak before using the kettle!
Are we the only ones experiencing this problem? Where can I address this issue? My question is this, what do international visitors think of our Kruger National Park when they can't have a lovely shower after a long, hot day? And what do other people do? Shouldn't these things be checked/maintained?
Please help!
