A certain amount of patience is required but not endless, depending on the weather, there are usually plenty of different insects around; the patience comes in when I try to get close enough to get the shot. Sometimes I can get in close first time and sometimes I end up chasing the bug(gers) around the garden.
The pictures I have posted on this thread so far were all taken with the Nikkor 55-200 kit lens that came with the camera plus a set of extension tubes. All of these pictures use natural sunlight which requires that the ISO be increased in order to get any sort of depth of field; this leads to grainy/noisy pictures.
I've since acquired a macro lens and I now use an external flash gun mounted so that it is right next to the end of the lens. Even at 1/16 power, the flash gives enough light to shoot at F22 or smaller at ISO 100.

Dunno what BC's garden is like but I have to get away from the Elephants and Hippos that keep invading my garden.
