The lazy man's guide to lightning photography (Must be done in the dark).
1. Set your camera up on a tripod.
2. point it at a thunderstorm.
3. Set to manual focus and focus at infinity.
4. Set shutter speed at 10 seconds.
5. Set aperture at f/8.
6. Find the menu item called "Interval Timer" (that's what Nikon calls it)
7. Set the camera to take 300 pictures (depending on your SD card capacity) at 11 seconds intervals.
8. Start the interval timer.
9. Go and watch TV for about 45 mins.
10. Check your results.

I tried it a few nights ago but didn't perform point 3 properly. I got some great lightning pictures that were all out of focus
Meanwhile, here's a Lightning of another sort.
