A Leopard’s Tail: KTP April/May 2023

We carried on south for a while, until Hoemoed.


All was very quiet so we turned around and returned to Kieliekrankie to pack up
After saying our farewells to Willem, we set off to KTC

Luckily we decided that a quick pit stop at Auchterlonie was in order, as when we got there we met up with two friends, Janette and her husband Daan


We had a great 30 minute catch up with them before we carried on
They also gave us a bottle of their son’s best red

Yes, it is awesome it is awesome to meet friends in favourite places. (even those that give you wine which appears to be laying down ) Sorry, that's just me being technically challenged

After chatting to our friends, we set off north up towards Kalahari Tented Camp.


We bumbled up along a very dry and quiet Auob river bed, along pretty decent roads,
So special to be there


We spotted this giraffe just before Kamqua

We did all the loops as we drove up and saw these gemsbok at the 14th Borehole waterhole

We booked in to Kalahari Tented Camp just after 2pm and decided to just relax, stay in and enjoy our last night of accommodation for a while


As a result, I have a lot of sunset pictures which I am about to bombard you with

Strange for me to see giraffe in the desert.

Saturday 29 April 2023 Mata Mata



Our plan was to try and get a decent camp site at Mata Mata for the next two nights, so instead of heading south along with the rest of Mata Mata and KTC in search of cats, we decided rather to spend a bit of time in camp, chilling, showering and packing up before heading back in the opposite direction back to Mata Mata


As we got to Mata Mata, a gentleman leaving the camp told us that we were in luck and that a lot of campsites had become vacant. ( The main reason for us spending a night at KTC before Mata Mata camping )

We got campsite no 9. Close to the fence with loads of shade (Some pics later )

We claimed our territory by leaving our trailer in the camps site and headed off for a game drive.

We went as far as 14th Borehole before turning around and returning to camp

A mixed bag of sightings included:

The ever present Gemsbok

Some giraffe were headed for the Dalkieth waterhole

These black backed jackals on a mission (to what we had no idea )

And a lanner falcon
