Blinker mentality RP. We "solve" a problem for a year but in the process make it 10 times worse for the future.
To be honest with you I would have thought the stockpile was more that 1400 horn, but if they say the value is 3.5 billion, that's all we've got. Peanuts compared to countless millions of Chinese, Vietnamese and Indonesians

I don't agree with you, iNdy! One of the points is getting rid of stock, before it continues to be siphoned away, IMO!

There are many variables regarding the future, but at present there is no real solution.

Is it right to manufacture a so called solution that is no solution at all, but is in fact a catalyst in making things much worse than they are now for the rhino.
And you can dump that pelican face ;-)
Getting rid of stock to save it from being stolen is only a monetary consideration RP, but we are talking about the future of a species here, a lot more important in my book.

I am not pelican at you, nitwit! 0*\ Rather the siphoning!

Why would selling increase demand? :-?

Simple Richboy.
Selling increases the demand because there is no legal horn enough to satisfy the demand.
Because of that it will fuel poaching even more as the price will have gone down but the demand will have increased because of that.

Let me spell it out, it's like PN says...... We legalize the sale in order to lower prices, hopefully enough that poaching is no longer profitable. Now more people can afford it. Stock pile runs out (and that will happen quickly), more people are clamoring for the stuff, price skyrockets because supply can no longer meet demand and poaching becomes even more profitable than it is now.....good bye rhinos quicker than the expected scinario is now.

Put it another way

Legalize drugs = more users

Drugs run out = more illegal activity to obtain drugs

Well that's how I see it -O-

The demand is already there, according to that logic...more of those demanders will just be able to afford horn! -O-

So no increase in demand, just an increase in users, presumably! ^0^
