Thanks BC. Some of these things used to creep me out too but I have become used to them in the last couple of years. I'm trying not to get too overconfident but I'm sure I'll step over the mark at some time and get zapped.

We know you like creepies (as evidenced by your attraction to RP). ;-)

Fantastic, a firefly! Another new one for the book! I thought it was a Netwinged Beetle, some of them are very similar!

And to give it some scale, my shoe is over 30cm long.

I must say, these things pitch up now and again, and are indeed the longest insects, if not terrestrial arthropods, in the world! And they have wings and can fly for short distances..a rather pointless exercise, and a VERY good question as to how evolution has funnelled this species into some sort of super insect....with a dead end probably being the answer!

Where did you read that my FEET were over 30cm long?

The Stick Insects in this region are babies, the longest insect ever discovered (also a Stick Insect) is from Borneo and measures a whopping 56.7cm!!!!   Here's a report

It's not unknown for creatures to develop into evolutionary cul-de-sacs, the Giraffe is probably another of them.

Spiders don't bother me much but I'm not going to pick them up! I'm a lot less keen on Scorpions!
