I'm actually using the BBM group to pinpoint sightings on my map before we go....wonder if it will help at all? :-? -O

I think Odie's website is instant when you log-on! ;-)

Thanks for the info on how these things work Cheetah. I suppose I can deduct from what you are saying is that it is the instant update sites that have the potential to cause chaos at sightings. Maybe these are the sites that need to also focus on educating on behavior

Is this correct OD as I only use your site and assumed it was as current as the BBM stuff :-?

I have to say that we have never benefited from the BBM site due to the lack of coverage in the park. Most of the time I would only get the updates once we were back in camp. \O

That is my thinking too iNdlovu. Just to add to what I said before regarding the workings of the networked BBM groups ...
each BBM updates group has 30 members. Provided the updater is in an area where there is signal, the 29 other group members can get the update at the exact same time as it is put up. There is typically only one or two from the group in the Park at any time. A number of groups are networked together. A few times a day, the admin of your group will broadcast all the updates from your group to all the other groups in the network. So the updates come around, but very slowly! I just got updates for sightings at 07:00 this morning -O Add to that what Flutts mentioned about the signal problems, and you find it is a pointless endeavor to rush off to the next and nearest update ;-) The slow BBM networks are useful for building up information before you go, and being connected to a group of Kruger lovers \O

As for the instant update groups ... I have never been a part of one. Perhaps Oss can educate us on how it works :-)

cheetah wrote: Hi Oom Theuns! You will be happy to know that the updates are far more than just the big 5 plus dogs and cheetah! :-)

It is nice to get a BBM explaining where you can find a giant eagle owl nest for instance! The next day when you drive along that route you can look out for it :-) Ground Hornbills are a favorite to update on as well! Waterbirds fishing, large herds of animals, rare antelope etc are updated on the BBM group too :-) Members also put up bird photos and ask for identification help! This often leads to birding tips and discussions!
Hi there Cheetah! 0/*
So what you are saying is that the BBM menace is not only chasing the Big5, dogs and cheetah, but bird nests, hornbills, fishing birds, ets as well!?

Just kidding here, it seems that your group is an educational one and I applaud that. ^Q^ ^Q^
However I think there are more Big5 chasing than education taking place in other groups/Apps which kind of rotten the whole bag of apples.
Bushcraft wrote:Hey OD,

I just spotted a post on your site:
Blue light brigade in a hummer speeding on the H11 towards Paul Kruger Gate
12 comments already, some say they also spotted them yesterday speeding around, some say it’s only going to get worse with the planned hotels, some say if SANParks were serious they would ban them, etc, etc.

I’m glad that at least there’s an interest from members and it makes me feel way more positive about the benefits of technology \O \O

This is positive for me as well and hopefully we will see more and more actual reporting of bad behaviour/rule transgressions from these high tech groups! \O \O

A last thought...please keep this threat South of Olifants!
