I had salmon fishcakes with Thai sauce and the others had steak and ale pie. Very, very good.

Now if you guys think I am train crazy after travelling almost 600 miles to see a steam train then check this out. On Wednesday 3 April I took a 5 train ride trip from London - Weymouth - Southampton - Brighton - Ashford International - London just to see the south of England from a train window. No steam this time around , only electric and diesel. I left London at 07:30 and got back to London at 18:50. Each train left exactly on time and the same for arrivals. At Southampton I only had 5 minutes to get off the one train and get on to the next one. Talk about tight timelines. Below are some photos taken through the train window so the quality is not so hot.
At London Bridge station one gets this view of Londons latest landmark - the 95 storey Shard Building - the highest building in the European Union.
Near Swanage.
The rivers were still in full spate.
The railway viaduct leaving Brighton.
I though this made quite a pretty picture.
Running alongside the seaside near Lewes.
The fields were full of sheep and lambs.
Cannot remember when I last saw one of these in South Africa but they seem to be all over the place in England.

Hi Flutterby. It is my greatest thrill next to seeing a leopard.
Hope Bush Brat is back in good health.

Lots of BMWs here, Lis...hence the absence of railway barriers!

Thursday 4 April was a lousy day with icy winds and flurries of snow all day long so we stayed indoors and kept each other company.
Friday 5 April was not so bad but still an icy wind and overcast but no rain or snow. Joan and I decided to leave the kids in peace so we ventured into London to try and get some icon photos. Herewith some of the results.
The first thing one sees when walking out of Tower Bridge subway station is this ancient Roman Wall.
A view of London Tower.
Tower Bridge.
The London Mounties.
We then walked along the Thames Walkway heading for Millenium Bridge and came across this guy who ignored all the people walking past him.
Two icons in one photo - Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast.
The new and the old.
An example of the tile work one sees in some of the walkways and subway stations.
St. Pauls Cathedral seen from the Thames Walkway.
Joan on the Millenium Bridge.
More to follow.
