I am forced to eat healthily as SO and the Brat are very particular about their food. Neither of them like red meat much and they refuse to eat take-aways, so lots of veggies for us! When I got back from Italy I was craving a steak and a burger!! lol I made rump steak the 2nd night I was home, but had to give SO time to recover from all that red meat, O** and finally having burgers tonight...but home-made...not take-aways! lol

Our fourth day in Sicily was a beach day. First, we went to see the Scala dei Turchi (Turkish Steps). This is a rocky cliff on the southern coast of Sicily. The Scala is formed by marl, a sedimentary rock with a characteristic brilliant, white color. Wind and sea have worked this rock over time, creating a natural staircase. The reference to the Turks derives from the frequent raids carried out by marauding Arabs and Turks who found shelter in this bay.

Image

Unfortunately, we couldn't climb the stairs as the visitor walkway had been closed and we didn't have our costumes on to wade through the waist-high water. :O^

Image

The nearby beach.

Image

We then went to La Spiagetta, a beach in the area of Siculiana Marina.

Image

First swim in the Mediterranean! The water was so calm and warm!

Image

After soaking up some rays we headed to the beach bar for some refreshments.

Image

All along the back of the beach is a high cliff of clay which visitors use as a natural skin treatment!

The Brat giving it a try. lol

Image

Then it was back to the house where we picked almonds and figs. SO's aunt made fig jam that night and I brought a bottle home with me! :-0

Image

I'd never seen peaches like these before! They are called flat peaches or saturn peaches, and they were delicious!

Image

SO's cousin then took us for a drive around the village to show us some family landmarks which included this farmhouse, where SO's father grew up!

Image

And a view from the front.

Image

The village of Santa Elisabetta.

This year those peaches have become cheaper and I have bought them from time to time and they are often much better than the usual ones
