The lion who would be king not only had to fight the females but also the scorching heat and then suddnely we had the mother of all dust storms and he had to brave that too 0*\

The pride took advantage of the storm and headed for the dunes giving him the slip

01 November 2014 - Urikaruus to Red Sands in Kuruman

Our last morning in the Park :-( . We left for Twee Rivieren first thing in the morning and did not find much till Samevloeiing. We had heard about the Top Cat Gang killing a Haartebeest at Leeudril the day before so decided to drive to Leeudril.

At Leeudril on the right hand side we found a couple of Tawny Eagles feeding on the remains of the kill

About one kilometer south of Leeudril we heard a commotion.

I stopped the car, we could see and hear a Cape Fox barking and a jackal standing in the background. Then from behind the bush a honey badger appeared with another cape fox on his tail

Image

We then clicked that the honey badger was trying to dig out a fox cub from the den, the foxes were at him and the opportunist jackal waits for anything that may come his way. No time to worry about light and how you parked. The action was on Sharifa's side and she was getting the shots. I tried to get some video footage round and pass her as it illustrateswhat was gooing on.

One cub loses his nerve and runs down the road

Another cub comes out of one entrance and hot foots it to another entrance to the den

Honey badger has had enough, expression says, "I'm out of here"

Eish, I missed that part with the lions in the sandstorm... I was furious at the male lion because he gave the ladies such a hassle
and I really felt sorry for the limping mum. Also, I was totally scared for the male youngster since he was really cute and good
looking (Can't be said about the small one at Rooibrak, methinks - never seen such a hideous lion cub before 0*\ I don't like
my photos of him, he looks real mean, I think.) But the storm provided such unusual photo opportunities! Some of my favourite
photos of this trip. \O

And then the caracal at Urikaruus, of course. What a treat we got there O\/

Benny, Choo and Fancy took out 2 hartebeests?! WOW, one had me already impressed... But two

But that farewell gift is indeed amazing! What an experience O\/ So, when will you be back for your next gift? lol
