Next up - I have pics of the Bombylidae Exoprosopa from a number of different years, so am gonna dig them up and compare to see if maybe some are different from one another. I also need to look into the Exoprosopa versus Delilippia designation. See ya' then. \O

Okay, here’s what I have over the years, all from KTP. Will post whatever angles I have - some not so helpful.

The one in the AW book already, ID’d as Exoprosopa sp. was from 2011

Note: it’s POSSIBLE the above 2 are different flies, but they were taken 2 snaps apart, both on the same type flower, so I put them together.

WHEW!! And you thought I was obsessive w/ j. spiders…. ^0^

Found this while looking for the previous. Megachilid - also Imfolozi.

Without any wing showing, can anything be done with it? :o0ps: :o0ps:

A Bombomyia sp.

The SANBI-list has 4 spp recorded for SA:
Bombomyia acroleucus, B. bombiformis, B. discoidea, B. fulvontata

B. discoidea and B. bombifrons look different, they have orange black and white bands.

Here a B. discoidea: https://africawild-forum.com/viewtopic. ... 89#p501589

After consultation with the Hesse keys, I can tell that it is not B. fulvonotata (which does not have longitudinal stripes on the thorax).

It might be B. acroleucus, described as having thorax stripes as well as white round patches. The description fits more or less, but (at least 100 years ago) there are only records for the Karoo area.

What do you think? Do we make it a Bombomyia sp., possibly B. acroleucus?
