Social distancing in the Kgalagadi Oct/Nov 2020

We are off to Enjo in the Cederberg for a few days, and I'm not too sure about the wifi situation there, so I may only post again in a week
Wifi dependant.

At least I can start preparing the upcoming posts

We awoke the next morning to a bright and sunny Keimoes day, pleased with our decision to head off to the Kgalagadi a day earlier, especially with the head banging music coming forth from some of our neighbours at 8 o clock in the morning.

Our trip up to Twee Rivieren was uneventful and included a few stops along the way to buy braai wood and biltong. (In hindsight neither were good purchases but it is what it is)

Arriving at Twee Rivieren was really different this time. To start off we needed to wear those pesky masks as did all the reception staff, so the normal welcome smiles were well hidden behind South African flags or SANParks logos.

We needed to have our temperature taken as we entered the reception area, a bit of a concern seeing that it was well over 35 degrees outside, but we passed the test .

Once all the formalities were done, and gift for Welcome School handed over, we were directed to our chalet, (no 30) for the night.

After doing the minimal unpacking, we both had showers and a snooze for an hour or so before going out on our first evening drive


After all our time in lock down, seeing even a springbok or gemsbok was really special, but those that we did see, were keeping their distance from us


Not so much this juvenile martial eagle, who appeared pretty shy, looking down onto the ground the whole time, still a great sighting though

was the only other highlight of the trip, before we got back to camp for the evening

Love "The Tree" and its nest

Would be interesting to dig up some old photos of the tree and the nest to see how it has changed over time!

Slow growing species, but the nest may have expanded or fallen several times.
