Whilst still waiting for parks to open again here in SA (well the ones in EC at least) I thought I would take a leaf out of RPs book and do something of a historic travel tale. This was a fantastic trip from back in 2001 incorporating a big tour around Namibia, across to the Okavango and Chobe in Botswana, then finishing up in Victoria Falls
First up meet the crew - just three of us... Richard, Alex and myself. We were young back then
Most of the trip involved camping (in a tent that I now realise was too small for 3 of us) but it all worked out well and we didn't try to kill each other too often.
As it is so many years ago I can't remember all the places/events of the trip but I'll try my best to piece it together. The photos also aren't saved in order so it could get interesting
We flew from London to Joburg then on to Windhoek, and stayed at some cheap hostel for a few nights to allow us to get some kit together. Leaving Windhoek, our first stop would be Quivertree Forest Restcamp, but coming from the UK we were rather amazed at the extremely quiet and straight roads
The grasses along the route were cool as well
We stayed at Quivertree just the one night if I remember correctly, but got to see quite a lot of fun things in the area. They had resident meerkats, ostrich, cheetah & warthog

Re: African Memories
That'll be a fantastic trip
Love that cheetah already And what's that construction behind the meerkats? Looks like a built-in trampoline.

Yep... a good trip to reminisce on
A lot of planning went into this one Flutts
Yeah, a few years before moving to SA. Quite a different prospect doing the camping thing from overseas!
Part of the photo confusion is that I had a combination of slide & film back then... so they all ended up in strange sequences
A trampoline indeed Mel... the meerkats actually enjoyed running around on it

Re: African Memories
Naturally the cheetahs stole the show for us. We had arrived in time for their afternoon feeding, so they were patrolling their fence in anticipation
Before long the meals arrived
The cheetah were surprisingly relaxed to have us around whilst eating
Although one decided to attack my camera bag, which just prior to this pic had been on my back
After mealtime the cheetah moved back into their much larger enclosure (really couldn't see where it ended which was great), and gave us some great photo opportunities

Re: African Memories
What a brilliant experience, Peej, and great pics!
Namibia has the most cheetahs per country.
Petting them and raising them is a hot topic now blah blah, but I for one think the benefits outweigh the "terrible" consequences by far...some children get bitten now and then?
How do you scan the pics?

Re: African Memories
Lots of captive cheetah in Namibia and usually tourists are told the story of breeding for conservation or rehabilitation etc.
Good for tourism only.
for some wildlife
