NOTE: Using the forum photo upload - for this TT
Phototbucket!!!
We were not ready to go home
NOT in any hurry at all!!
After leaving Addo we decided as it had been such a pleasant drive all along the coast going up OR is it down!!
We had missed some of the smaller places, therefore we would take this route going home as well!!
We focused mainly on the Witsand area which was a first for us.
For those who may be interested including a map for ease of reference
First had to stop along the way, just before the Toll gate - a photo of the mountains, they were beautiful.
Then we stopped in Knysna for a bite to eat
Who could have thought that 2 weeks later they would suffer such devastating fires on the 7th June 2017.
There was a lot of low mist pockets all along the way to Witsand
We reached our destination
We had rather a lot of mist during our stay but made the most of the sunshine when it came through.
Not sure during the summer months if it is very busy as it was so quiet when we were there
Just up our street!
There are only plus minus 300 permanent residents living there all year round, which includes Port Beaufort.
There was a fair number of holiday homes all nicely closed up presumably for the summer invasion!
Mist + sea = Witsand!

What a small place, A-N!
Near Knysna, you say?
Didn't look that dry there yet, or maybe that is what dry time looks like in the Cape?

One turns off just other side of Heidelberg
Have a look on the map have marked Witsand with an X
Some areas in the Cape have had some rain however, not the normal winter rainfalls.
I think it is a great place for fisherman

Lovely scenery around there!
We drove through that area years and years but Witsand probably didn't even exist then!

WHITE SANDS AND PORT BEAUFORT
WHITE SANDS
“White Sands” appeared on title deeds relating to a portion of the farm Westfield.
1832: Westfield homestead built.
1908: Over the years various people had erected accommodation next to the river mouth on stands obtained by the Moodie family of Westfield. The village of White Sands near Port Beaufort was laid out on that part of the farm Westfield called White Sands held by Benjamin and D.D. Moodie, under certificates of registered title dated December 30th.
1909: White Sands proclaimed a township.

It is really a beautiful area and still unspoiled by humans

Re: Mist + sea = Witsand!
There are only 2 small shops where one can buy the most basic provisions
Which is obviously at a price
Next morning we woke up to thick mist, so decided to take a trip to Heidelberg, where there are more shopping facilities!
The sun was starting to burn away some of the dark thick mist and clouds
If you did not know it was mist one would have thought it is going to rain any minute The tar road goes next to farms and there were some interesting birds and animals to be seen.
There are many Ostrich farms along this stretch of road!
Ostriches just where you look
Here one can actually see it was very dry as they had to put feed and water out for them. Close up almost looking up his nose

This was the first time we had actually ridden into Heidelberg, to look at the dorpie/town
Found the following gem of a coffee shop just so special!
Loved the pouring kettle too! With real water being poured
Even saw a couple of raptors on the wires
