Lower Sabie

After relaxing in camp for a few hours we prepared for our afternoon drive. We decided to just drive down the H4-1 as far as we could and then turn back. I have never seen this road so quiet. We did not see another car until we got onto the S79 causeway loop! We also didn't see any game except for a few impala. At the causeway we came across another hippo carcass. :-(

Image

A bit further on the Brat spotted something in the thick undergrowth. A young Bateleur with a kill.

Another Bateleur.

I then spotted something unusual...a very young impala all on its own.

Image

We then saw that its right front leg was injured, possibly broken. :-( We could only assume it had been left behind by the herd...it was heartbreaking to watch this tiny little thing limping around on its own.

Image

We carried on up the tar and found some cute twins. :-0

Give us a kiss! 0/0

A tiny boon. ;-)

Another Bateleur, and a friend. ;-)

It was time to start heading back and even though we always take the causeway we decided to give it a miss this time as we couldn't bear to see the little impala again.

Caught up, Flutterby,

and finally you could find the first lions and leopard during that trip \O

But I guess the rest was so far not that bad too with honey badger and so many birds - I love the evening shots of Sunset dam and felt with this little impala :O^

Must have been rather a dull afternoon -O- You cannot have lions AND leopards every day O**

Hmz... the Impala youngster actually looks well fed, so the injury had been quite recently, I would think. Hope it survived though 0/0

Not seeing another car for what feels like Ages (and in the south as well!) is amazing. O:V

Very cute boons, particularly the tiny one.

Oh, and I love all those bateleurs! Well done for spotting the one in the "thicket", Brat \O
