They are so small and not at all easy to spot! Very well done and good luck with the missing ones \O

Episode 15… a laughing matter

One animal that I can sit with for a long time as they are very playful and enjoy their antics, but are mostly looked over is the hyena. They are very inquisitive and not afraid of cars, making them sometime s a nuisance. I had one experience with them where one stole my number plate and had it for dinner; I only got a hand full as proof the next day. Some moments I shared with these cheeky critters:

December/January 2014/2015
I only saw this afterwards; he has a tag from checkers with him…

Then one that is staring at us like we are a strange species…

Here is the closest I came to a brown hyena…
Image

Hyenas do like to bath when it gets too hot, unfortunately we couldn’t join and had to stay in our vehicle…
Image

Then the youngsters are always fun to look at…

We had a lot of laughs with these playing hyenas, according to me they were trying to bit eachothers tails (according to friends of mine, other things) and then would quickly sit before being bit…

And with the gala dinner at the golf club, we drove in convoy through the staff village, luckily I was last and was then able to stop and take a few kiekies of the mum and cub next to the road. The kiekies were poef as it was pitch black and no one in the car to show the flashlight for me to take proper pics… It is the smallest hyena I have ever seen…

To be continued…

Blinked for a day or two and I missed two episodes .
Love the OWLS we also only seen a few and most on night dives .We hoped to see some in January but also saw none .
Hyenas are one of my favorites .They very misunderstood but I love their antics and they are actually one of the most important predators in KNP . \O
