Today my mom and I went to Rietvlei for the day to test out my new camera - the Canon EOS 700d!
We will be in Kruger in 2 weeks so we thought that I should be ready for when we go!
As my mom mentioned in 'The Boma' we had two first sightings - one of the two sightings we had already seen in Kruger before but it is still a lucky thing to see! The seconds was a first for us.
I will post all my pics taken with my new and then my mom will share her pics - hope you enjoy!
We saw plenty Eland and it was the first thing we saw although they were always too far away for a decent pic.
We also saw quite a few rhino - although they just don't look the same without their horn! I suppose better without their horn than nothing at all!
Shortly after, I spotted a Jackal although my lens was not strong enough to pick it up because he was quite far away.
We stopped at the Otter Brug and the Yellow - billed Ducks, Eqyptian Geese and the 'Unknown Bird' kept us entertained!
Experimenting with the water!
This is also where we saw one of the firsts - the first that we had already seen in Kruger before. (When you read that over it sounds quite dodgy! )
Yip, you guessed it - we saw two Cape - clawless Otters at the Otter Brug! Sadly we weren't able to get a pic because we saw them as we drove off and by the time our cameras were ready, they were gone - but still two Otters!
Trying out birds in flight.
This ostrich was quenching his thirst!
Hope you liked my first official pics taken with my new cam!
Now it's my mom's turn, where she will tell you about the seconds first - which was a proper first! (This one also sounds dodgy! )

Great pics with your new camera BB.
Love the water one - very effective.
Nice Cape Wagtail and Crowned Plover in flight.
The duck is a dodgy mix of several species, theres Mallard and Muscovy in there somewhere. -O
Can't wait to see your Kruger pics after your next trip.

I agree, it is sad that we have to go to that extent to protect our rhinos! Thanks for the compliments!nan wrote:wow, not bad at all

Very good for your first outing with the new camera BB!
Sometimes it’s not until you don’t see what you want to see, that you truly open your eyes.

Congrats on your new camera - one of the best.
For your first photos with the new camera your photos are brilliant. Wait until you start learning what the 700D can really do.
Luck seeing the clawless otto - we still have to see one there.
