It didn't take too long before Bea and I were bored with the "beach", so we headed back into the park for an afternoon drive, leaving the kids behind once again.
At Lengau Dam we spotted this jackal passed out in the cool mud.
Warties and an ibis.
Just after leaving the dam we spotted these precious ones heading towards the dam!!
Then a car approached us and excitedly told us a herd of ellies was also heading our way, so we turned around and went back to the dam to wait for them...what a sight!
The ellies moved behind the dam while the rhinos approached the spot where the jackal was still sleeping, but he soon received a rude awakening!
The jackal decided that discretion was the better part of valour...
...but did not want to be too discreet and settled down again not too far away.

This is astounding, Flutts!
Wow indeed, and one of those afternoon trips when things come together big time!
Do you see the jackal's wife checking him out in the bark of the tree behind him?
What do the kids get up to alone at Sun City, I worry...

Re: Our Pilanesberg Adventures
The ellies started drinking, but only one rhino approached the water while the others hung back, but it was not easy to photograph, shooting straight into the afternoon sun.
The ellies drank quickly and then moved to a muddy spot closer to the rhino.
A lone ellie bull then appeared and was encircled by the herd and greeted by each one - you can see how much bigger he is.
Most of the herd started to move off but the young males stayed behind with the older one...presumably for some male bonding/tutelage.
After a bit of rough play the older bull sniffed the genitals of the younger ones whilst displaying his own.
One of the youngsters then performed a weird little dance.
The young ones then rejoined the herd and the lone bull soon moved off in the opposite direction.
