Apparently the hire cars now have tags for the tolls. So one no longer has to pay cash. The charge will appear on my bill at the end of the rental period.

Is there a dedicated lane for this?
Does one just drive up to the barrier and it opens up?

The toll tags on rental vehicles have been there for a few years and are mainly for Gauteng and Gauteng's tolling system. Possibly only people paying are the rental vehicles as everyone else is boycotting it. Maybe first toll booth will have the system, but not sure if the others in Mpumulanga etc have a dedicated e-tag line and whether the system works on those. You will know once you hit the boom at about 30km/h. O**

According to the info given to me a few weeks ago when having to get a new e-tag for the Hugenot tunnel on the N1 between Worcester and Paarl , these SANRAL e-tags are supposed to work on ALL toll roads since beginning January 2018 . The boom is supposed to pick up the e-tag signal and the boom is supposed to lift as you approach it in the e-tag lane O**
I pre-pay toll-fees on mine .
