Needless to say that all people from the neighbouring bungalows as well as we hurried to the fence to get a closer view onto all of them.

Image

It was simply such a magic moment that we had the honour in watching them that close

Image

Image

but far too soon all of them disappeared in the thick bush and all the people lit their braai. What a more than wonderful first full day we had.

Saturday, 09. February 2019 – Berg en Dal – Crocodile Bridge

Roads we paid a visit: S110 – H3 – S119 – S25 – H4-2 – S28 – H4-2

Today it was already moving day as we decided to spend only one night in this camp as we had nearly two full days in that area and instead to squeeze in one night in Mopani although I must say that I missed another night in Berg en Dal. Anyway after we packed everything together and paid a final visit to Matjulu. We stopped for Mrs. Zorro

Image

and for the obligatory giraffes. Zebras were also around but still far too far away for some decent shots.

Image

Matjulu itself was deserted and so we continued but soon had to stop for a group of ground hornbills who picturesquely positioned themselves onto a dead tree with the mountains in the background

Image

and we simply had to capture a lot of pictures.

Image

Image

After a while they obviously thought we got enough shots and so one after the other took off and landed on the road

Image

but luckily for us they were still brilliantly visible without being hidden by the high grass.

A juvenile could also be found and finally one after the other then walked into the green grass and soon were no longer to be seen.

Image

Image

We were then happy that we already could spot a couple of amur falcons,

Image

Image

a lilac breasted roller,

Image

and even more amur falcons.

Image

More giraffes came around and were indeed hard to see in the dense vegetation

Image

Image

and finally also the Wahlberg positioned itself brilliantly for an extensive photo shooting.

to be continued…
