The drive in with a lion already - wow! But the mongoose is my favourite 0/0
Mel wrote: Fri Mar 27, 2020 6:07 pm I forgot to ask: What lodge were you in along the Malelane? 0()
Normally we will make it to the park straight but it is just a spare night just in case something is not working as we will (delays in flights, traffic jams) and even a more than good start into the trip - You gave me the hint two years ago - Rio Vista Lodge - also the Restaurant there is highly recommendable and the staff is lovely O/\

Sorry about the aircon and baby... O-/

Fat-looking crocs! O:V

This is going to be a grand trip, and lions already! 0() :ty:
It was a grand trip and the first full day was already an Incredible one \O

Maybe they fly somewhere else where there is more water then -O-

Meanwhile one of the male lions stood already up and started the walk, however, was far too soon out of sight but finally we noticed that there were more

Image

and suddenly one after the other stood up and followed the leader.

Image

In total it was a group of four male lions who unfortunately walked deeper into the bush and due to the vegetation could hardly be seen anymore.

Image

We drove back until we reached the junction with the H3 and so did also all the other cars but somehow the lions kept away - maybe they laid down out of sight until the evening but for sure we carried on eager to find something new.

Which we in fact did only a couple of meters were we originally saw the lions – a large herd of elephants was about to arrive – In the beginning they only appeared sporadically

Image

Image

and even allowed some close ups

Image

but suddenly they turned up from nearly everywhere – even twins – at least they looked so.

Image

Two of them even had a quarrel and they tested out who might be the stronger one

Image

and after a while peace dominated again and they finally walked side by side away.

Image

Simply love the background on that shot which is so typical for this area and now also the ladies appeared on the scene

for sure with a lot youngsters

Image

and even smaller ones around.

Image

Image

Most of them were feeding on the high and fresh green grass whilst others took a rest

Image

and after a more than lovely while we could spend with them they finally cleared the way and soon disappeared between the thick bushes.

Image

Again we did not come far as soon a family of warthogs was willing to pose

Image

as well as impalas

Image

and even more warthogs posed nicely for us as normally they are on a ran away mode but these were extreme relaxed,

Image

the light was perfect and the hitchhikers plentiful.

Image

Image

to be continued…..
