Browns in Kruger - August 2019 (JHB Clan)

Post by Supernova »

16 August 2019

Again, we were in Marloth Park for the yearly Kruger trip. This time we booked “Ex Deo Seekoei”, it was on the Crocodile river road and turned out to be the prefect place for a family of our size. The house has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, with a great deck and braai area and is reasonably priced, at only R9,500 for 7 people 5 nights – basically the equivalent of 1 night in a Sanparks guest house

The house looks small from the outside but is huge inside with great features, I would definitely book there again!

We arrived early at Marloth Park, so went to the Tin Shack restaurant for lunch and a beer.

After booking in and unpacking we were left with about an hour to take a quick drive in the park. At this time of day, the entry was only a few minutes and we took a quick drive up the H4-2 for 30 minutes each way.

The plan for the first full day in the park was to enter at Crocodile Bridge, take the H4-2 / 4-1 to Skukuza for a lunch stop, then exit via Malelane gate, following S114 down from Skukuza to Malelane.

Being out of public-school holidays the entry only took a few minutes and we entered via Croc Bridge and were in the park by 07h00, the guys at the entry gate were friendly and efficient but it still took an hour.
first up was a Hyena clan at Gezantombi dam.

We followed them while they checked out the dam and stopped for a drink. There must have been a kill a few days earlier as there were also vultures in the trees.

At one stage we spotted this “Black Rhino” !! It was in a spot where we did not expect to find a Blackie but…

But when it turned to face us it was a White Rhino.

17th August Continued…

0/* Welcome back!

The house looks great! IMO especially being a big family it's much better to stay outside the park. Of course it's a nuisance to get to the gate and do the day visitor thing ( which could be made much easier and quicker, if somebody would take the trouble to DO IT :O^ ) but it is nice to be surrounded by good taste and lots of room and a great view and last but not least, it's so much cheaper and thinking about THAT, the road to the gate is not that long after all O**

Lovely stuff all round, SN! ^Q^ :ty:

Tattoo boy still there! @#$ lol

Very good hyena pics, and lucky to see black/white rhino! :-0 X#X

The quality of accommodation vs price is so huge, and frankly embarrassing, but on the other hand staff salaries in the park are massive, so what is your take on the very complicated calculations? Kruger are damned if they do etc. 0: :-? -O-
