Re: The Big Cat Diary and a Couple of Lifers
Between all these different water birds a single spur winged goose looked a bit lost.
Lots of bee eaters flew around and we could capture another Carmine
and waterbucks with extreme muddy legs who obviously quenched their thirst from the river and then decided to have breakfast.
Impalas were also busy in grazing from the short grass which was still left
and between all the different birds an uncountable number of crocodiles could be discovered as well.
We enjoyed the great number of different birds although they were located a bit far away
but it was great fun to admire that much of them together especially the smaller white faced ducks between them.
The waterbucks were joined by cattle egrets who complained heavily about something whilst
the spoonbills were busy in fishing as well as lots of African jacanas
and suddenly a group of white faced ducks flew over all the other birds.

They obviously had enough from their own congress. As you can see we had such a joy in observing that number of birds which could be seen and heard
and lots of convention and congresses of a special specie took place, here the openbilled storks had their own as well
and so had the white faced ducks as well whilst also buffaloes came into sight.
After such a wonderful time spending with bird watching (as much as we loved to watch the lions at the kill) bird watching is another thing we carried on and drove deeper into the hurly-burly of the loops
and even got closer to some impressive large sunbathing crocodiles
and more buffaloes.
A couple of giraffes made their way to the river for a drink
and also away from the water in the bush on the ground lot of birdies could be discovered
also the ever busy African hoopoes stopped for a picture
and so did the helmet shrikes
and the hadedah. We were the whole time we spent time there the only car and so the birds did not felt disturbed and always returned when we switched the motor off to the place where we have spotted them earlier.
to be continued....

Superb, Pumbaa!!!!
What a collection of birds in the water there! I thought the white-faced where baby geese at first!
And the openbills in such numbers!
Also interesting the short grass "lawns" the hippos make. good for grazing and root spread?
I hate hadedas with a passion...

Those shots that show a variety of water birds are just great!
I also like the view from the huts at Olifants. I only stayed there once (well, I only went to Kruger three times anyways before discovering the Kgalagadi ) but I so loved looking over the river and the whole scenery in general.
Okay, it's January already... How many days to go? (secretly that is a )

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.
