Were they not supposed to do an autopsy? If yes, they should know if it was a snake bite or something else 0'

I doubt they would have been able to do the tests yet Lis. That was just a comment from the staff suggesting that the cause of death wasn't obvious so they were wondering if it might have been a snake bite... if they do carry out tests then I'm sure they'll be able to confirm for certain, but they might not share that information with everyone. \O

After a few further phone calls today it seems that the snake bite information was just speculation. They also won't be doing an autopsy on her body... it was an unexpected premature death but not suspicious (e.g. the jackal poison story). Based on the condition of her body (still very much intact but showing decomposition) it seems likely that she died sometime between the last week of November and the first few weeks of December and that Josie and the cubs stayed with her most of that time. A very sad turn of events, but I'm also very excited to see whether Josie can raise her litter \O

So as I've already mentioned, the highlight of our visit the other day was spending some time with this black rhino... only the second time I've found one in the daytime O/\ O/\
