Dr Mabunda Leaves SANParks

Dr David Mabunda’s career as Chief Executive Officer of SANParks will come to an end on 31 March 2014, after two 5-year contractual terms.

Dr Mabunda has worked for SANParks for 15 years, starting as Director of the Kruger National Park in 1998 and was appointed CEO of SANParks in 2004.

The Board expressed its sincere gratitude at its meeting held on 26 March 2014, in recognition of Dr Mabunda’s contribution to conservation and to national parks specifically. The Board will now begin the process of recruiting a successor for the position of SANParks' CEO.

My thoughts exactly. I quake at the prospect of certain names that come to mind and this would indeed be the death knell to me. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I believe that to a certain extent Mabunda's hands have been tied and that he has had to toe the line - time will tell. I hope that whoever gets the job is suitably qualified as opposed to what is running the rest of our country!

Well, it sounds like the Honourable Doctor did not resign. As per this press release, his contract was not renewed and the CFO also resigned. There is more than what meets the eye, I think.

SANParke-hoof se kontrak nie weer hernu

Dr. David Mabunda se loopbaan as uitvoerende hoof van SAN­Parke loop Maandag ten einde.

Só het dr. Gert Dry, lid van SANParke se raad, gisteraand gesê. Volgens Dry het Mabunda se kontrak, wat twee keer hernu is, nou tot ’n einde gekom.

SANParke het in ’n verklaring gesê Mabunda het 15 jaar lank vir SANParke gewerk en is in 2004 as uitvoerende hoof aangestel. Hy het in 1998 by SANParke as ’n direkteur begin.

Dry het by navraag gesê ­Themba Mabilane, finansiële hoofbeampte van SANParke, het verlede week bedank. Hy het geen redes vir sy bedanking gegee nie, het Dry gesê. Hy was ook op kontrakgrondslag aangestel.

Dry het gesê SANParke verloor twee staatmakers, veral in die lig van die feit dat dié organisasie die laaste paar jaar skoon ouditverslae gekry het.

’n Waarnemende uitvoerende hoof van SANParke sal vandag aangestel word. In die volgende ses maande sal die soektog na ’n nuwe uitvoerende hoof begin, het Dry gesê. – Elise Tempelhoff
