Guided game drives - KNP

Post by mikef »

Hi All – I have been absent from the forum for some time and it seems like I have a lot of reading to catch up on. 0/*

I also have a question for the members of this forum. I recently came across a FB page of a fellow SA photographer who also provides guiding services in the KNP. It appears that he is in a position to pick up guests from accommodation outside the KNP, go for an afternoon drive followed by a braai and drinks at a location within the park before finishing with a night drive before leaving the park. I was not aware that such concessions are available to anyone – can any members provide additional insight if this type of opportunity now exists for any concessionary? :-?

Hi Mike 0/*

Guided game drives, yes! but never heard about the braai thing for guides coming from outside the park. I suppose that you could book it like visitors in the park does -O-

Hmm seem to remember seeing something along those lines being requested to tender for the Phalaborwa gate area and also somewhere it was mentioned as being planned for Numbi gate or around that area -O-

Thanks for all the feedback - seems I have lost touch with what Sanparks allows and does not. Did a bit more research after the disappointing rugby and found an operator offering such a package from Crocodile Bridge Gate picking up guests from Marloth Park- see link below:

I wonder how widespread this concession is and how much KNP makes from such activities :-?

Also in this case the prizes are raised by 10% from year to year 0-

I do not think the prices are all that unreasonable considering what is included. I am a lot more concerned about my perceived lack of transparency from Sanparks - possibly these opportunities have been advertised like those linked by Roger, but I certainly have never seen or become aware of these opportunities. I suspect the long term strategy might be the banning of private vehicles -O-
