Media Release: Interruption of utilities supply at the restaurant facilities in Satara, Olifants and Letaba Rest Camps in Kruger National Park

22 September 2017

South African National Parks (SANParks) would like to apologise unreservedly to Mugg and Bean for any inconvenience caused regarding the media release issued by SANParks yesterday 21 September 2017. The Mugg and Bean franchise was withdrawn from the restaurant facilities at Letaba, Satara and Olifants rest camps in the Kruger National Park in March 2017.

The updated statement is that the ongoing dispute between Ringgold and SANParks is around the lawfulness of Ringgold’s continued occupation of the restaurant facilities at Letaba, Satara and Olifants rest camps in the Kruger National Park.

“On 24 July 2017 an arbitrator issued an award confirming termination by SANParks of the PPP Agreements with Ringgold in respect of the three rest camps with effect from 15 July 2015. Ringgold challenges the validity of the award whereas SANParks seeks the enforcement thereof,” according to SANParks General Manager: Legal Services Department Delsey Fahlaza Monaledi.

Further to this, Ringgold has for a considerable period not made any payment towards the utilities charges levied by SANParks at the three rest camps. On 13 September 2017 Ringgold were placed on terms by SANParks to make payment of the outstanding utilities charges, but failed to do so. As a result SANParks was left with no option but to forthwith terminate the supply of the utilities and related services at the three camps.

SANParks regret the inconvenience that may be caused to the visitors of the three camps. “In order to mitigate the inconvenience that may result, SANParks recommend to the visitors to utilise the temporary facilities that have been established in each of the three camps,” concludes Monaledi.

There are two things here....it is not entirely clear if Kruger actually lately pays Eskom for electricity in the first place...they certainly don't pay for any other utilities/municipal services/taxes etc.

But good to see the franchises don't get unfair advantage. Now how about water? 0()

What a mess, obviously M&B taking offense with bungled releases! 0*\

They are great at making a mess. It's a bit late to apologize when the damage is done and it was avoidable :O^

Maybe the Western Noses must speak, but I'm scared that it is NOT a shock to them any more, which is far worse... :-(

My mate used the "boskombuis", (This one) and M&B which is still operating with power cut off, so the latter use gas only, with limited menu as in burgers etc.

The former is lovely and cheap, but must surely run at a tremendous loss at the moment. Also seems to be set that way for a long time, leaking money, so to speak, just to keep tourists alive?

A MESS! 0*\
