Re: SAFETY MEASURES FOR THE USE OF SWIMMING POOLS IN THE KNP

Nothing at all at Pretoriuskop this New Year's, regarding the new stuff...don't even know if staff know about it, to be honest? Seems to be more like a day visitors pool thing, as was sort of said in the first place! :-0

This is the standard sign for most pools, and works fine over the years? -O-

From SanParks Face book
Lesley Nyawo

Dear valued Stakeholders
It is with deep sympathy that we announce an unfortunate incident that has led to the loss of a guest in shingwedzi camp swimming pool yesterday, 02 April 2016.
The 8 year old boy's body was discovered in the swimming pool after the group he was with left the pool to their units; the group returned to the pool after realising that a member was missing.
An ambulance was called from Malamulele to the the camp, after attempts to resuscitate the 8 year old.
The family of the 8 year old was escorted by SAPS and KNP Rangers to the gate in order to attend to the 8 year old at the nearest hospital.
On behalf of KNP Management, we take this opportunity to convey our most sincere condolences to the family and further urge guests of the park to supervise all movement of minors when using facilities in camps during their stay in the park.

All the safety measures mean nothing if parents are not going to be responsible. It is a tragedy, but you have to question the actions of parents. How do you not know your one child is not with you???

Ja, SANParks can't be held responsible. You have to assume alcohol was involved. -O-

Very sad news to read about after returning back home from Kruger staying for 6 nights at Shingwedzi. We left a few days before this incident and to think might have seen this family at the pool during our stay. The pool stays open until 9 pm when the gate gets locked until the next day.

When you book in at reception you need to sign an indemnity form for the use of the swimming pool and a guard is present during day time checking mainly for alcohol and ensuring no day visitors enters.

My understanding is that the incident happened after gate closure when it gets quite dark around the pool area although there are lights at the pool. It is easy to get confused that you may miss some-one in your party specially if it is a large group at that time.
