Article in Beeld today:
Cape Town: Since January 2011 Kruger has sold 170 White Rhino. The buyers' names are kept secret due to security concerns. The reasons are to provide added income and to improve the survival chances of WR in SA through expanding private ownership.
Min. Molewa in response to parliamentary question from Mr Koornhof.
The thing is, is this still justifiable? The rhino come from the Southern section, mostly, where there WAS an overpopulation in certain areas. Poaching has had a yet to be determined effect on family structures, even though numbers may remain apparently ok?
Buyers presumably want prime bulls and cows, not old stock...further complicating the issue!

Re: Kruger still selling Rhino
The government should sell their houses, not the rhinos belonging to the South African population, if they need money
Where do the money go? To the Government or to Sanparks ( which at the end is the same thing )

The money goes to SANParks, and is actually part of their budgeted income every year, depending on which version of their ledgers one can find! -O

Not surprised at all.
Now here is a thought, what if some of these were counted in the census last here, the aborted one, that is continuing this year

Re: Kruger still selling Rhino
I don't think it includes 2013, but there are rhinos awaiting export in the Skuks bomas, I presume?
I don't think much happened if at all in the census last year, Sharifa..it would have been in the news by now?
