Re: Fire Hazard in Camps

This was meant to happen in July:
Richprins wrote: Fri Jul 19, 2019 7:13 pm Kindly be informed that Kruger National Park Rangers and Working on Fire teams will be burning grass inside Mopani Rest Camp on the Tuesday, 23 July 2019 and surrounding areas from 24 July to 01 August 2019.

Mopani Rest Camp is regarded as a high fire risk area due to the natural bush environment of the camp; therefore the prescribed burning of the dead old dry moribund material beneath the standing dry grass will reduce the fire risk to infrastructure as well as the fuel load to decrease the likelihood of serious fires.

While we note that the smoke created as a result of the burning which is the approved environmental acceptable method will be unpleasant to guests. The following precautions should be taken:

Inside the Camp

• Closing of windows to avoid any potential sensitivity to the smoke.

• Do not go near the flames

Outside the Camp

• Reduce travelling speed

• Switch on vehicle lights as visibility may be hampered

• Do not drive too close to the flames

• Do not get out of your vehicle

We apologize for any inconvenience caused as a result of the controlled fire burns.

For more information in this regard, please contact Mopani Rest Camp Management

The right hand does not know what the left is doing O**

What the first post is concerned: it should not be necessary to complain on the media to get attention 0*\

No, it should not. The "official channels" don't work, it seems. -O-

Kruger National Park
@SANParksKNP
Management burn in Mopani Rest Camp underway. Meticulous planning goes into such a scheduled burn which is necessary to safeguard the camp during the dry winter months.

I heard that they are doing block burns in certain areas in the park as well. Right time of year and much easier while there are no guests. \O

Sometimes it’s not until you don’t see what you want to see, that you truly open your eyes.
