Kruger: Infrastructure Development Programme 2014-2017

Infrastructure Development Programme (IDP 2014-2017)

The following projects form part of the IDP 2014-2017:
1. Upgrading and restoring of the Theba units at Pafuri Gate into a small tourism camp
2. Upgrading and renovations of the old SAPS house at Punda Maria into a guesthouse
3. Relocation of the Nyalaland trails camp
4. Rustic picnic site, tented camp and camping site in the Nxanatseni Region
5. Shangoni Entrance Gate, including the following infrastructure:
a. Entrance Gate facilities with environmental education- and activity centres as well as
support infrastructure
b. Link road (tar) with bridges from the new gate to the Shingwedzi/Mopani tar road (H1-6)
c. Rustic picnic site
d. Rustic camping site
e. Rustic tented camp
6. Relocation of Metsi Metsi trails camp
7. Malelane Safari Lodge
8. Skukuza Safari Lodge
9. Skukuza SPA
10. Additional anti-poaching facilities at gates and ranger posts
11. Additional 6 tents at Lower Sabie
12. Phabeni Environmental School
13. Science Leadership Centre Skukuza
14. Upgrading of existing tourism infrastructure and support services
15. Upgrading and replacement of bulk support infrastructure
16. Upgrading of staff accommodation and support services by upgrading the existing units and
construction of new units based on the 2*Bedroom RDP standards.
17. Additional loops with new view points and bird-hides
18. Upgrading of the entrance gates to provide improved tourism services, park-and-ride facilities and
additional security infrastructure
19. Additional rustic picnic sites in the Marula Region
20. Rustic camping site and tented camp in the Marula Region
21. New Day-visitor / Activity centres at some of the entrance gates
22. New budget tents in Satara rest camp
23. Upgrade of the research camp in Pafuri
24. Upgrading of the Rhino/buffalo bomas
25. Renovations of the Wildlife Research and Products Centre.
26. Upgrading of the boundary fencing and patrol roads

And the entire programme is funded by DEA
An amount of R950 million has also been allocated to SANParks for infrastructural development, while another R42 million has been allocated for road improvements. An additional R12 million has been allocated to repair of SANParks flood damaged infrastructure.
