Hi everybody!
I haven't done this route in a very long time so needing some up to date advice on the best route from the Vaal Triangle to Phalaborwa.
I used to go via Polokwane. Should we rather go via Orighstad?
Any advice appreciated.

The Polokwane route has stop and go roadwork areas at the moment. The Lydenburg route has again got some bad sections with potholes. It's a 50/50 call.
Sometimes it’s not until you don’t see what you want to see, that you truly open your eyes.

Spoke to my Burgersfort uncle and he suggests the Lydenburg route, especially if darkness is involved, as the N4 is fine. A far shorter route. Agreed a few potholes before Lydenburg, and a few around Ohrigstad, but plain sailing from there!
Interestingly, does not recommend Polokwane/Tzaneen due to possible political troubles at the mo!

The route from Dullstroom to Lydenburg is bad at the moment, but the Lydenburg Origstad route is even worse.
Both are doable but you just have to drive at a lower speed and be vigelant all the time.
Mica to Phalagat route is also quickly becoming a gat where you have to, at times, search for the tar inbetween the holes.

Re: Traveling to Phalaborwa
We did the Belfast route. Expect the worst and you won't be too shocked about the condition of the road.
But honestly not as bad as I thought it would be. There is a stretch between Dullstroom and Orighstad that is really bad, but after that it's mostly okay. There are some big holes in the pass again. I had to concentrate 100% all the time and didn't do the route at 120 obviously. In general the road is in better condition coming from Orighstad towards Lydenburg.
