The last 100% comprehensive census of herbivores was in 1997. After that guessing games, despite money given for a full census in 2012 but never done...

The closing of some Northern waterpoints did seem to help, though. Looking back on the thread one can see many herds, very often with youngsters, from Babalala to Mopane!

Thats an old map..Anthrax and habitat destruction have dropped that to well below 50 ..I heard 35 3 years ago but there have been babies recently and assuming NO predation???? that should be nudging 50 again ...Big group around Mopani is 13 in Sept ..11 were at Boyela 2 years ago and then small groups between Mopani and Babalala also including the 2 big groups I mentioned makes 50 look like an optimistic estimation
