The attitude of the police is another thing that must change.

Tourists held up at gunpoint at holiday house, robbed of cellphones, jewellery and rented Mercedes Benz

Limpopo police have mobilised their resources and personnel in tracking down a group of armed suspects who robbed nine foreign tourists of their belongings this week.

The tourists were attacked on Thursday night at their holiday house in Phalaborwa.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo declined to reveal the origin of the tourists. TimesLive reported that the group had returned to their respective countries on Friday following the incident.

Naidoo said national police commissioner General Khehla Sitole called for a massive mobilisation to track down the suspects.

“A group of at least three armed men are alleged to have forcefully entered a holiday house on a plot in Siloque, Phalaborwa at approximately 20:00. The suspects held nine foreign tourists at gunpoint and robbed them of valuables which included a laptop, 10 cellphones, jewellery and a cash amount of over R5 000.

“The suspects fled the scene, using the victims rented Mercedes Benz ML which was later found abandoned in bushes next to Siloque main road, about 10km from the scene,” Naidoo said.

He said Sitole was briefed by the provincial commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, who has mobilised the 72-hour Activation Plan by assembling a team of investigators to track down the suspects and bring them to book.

Earlier this month, the Department of Police and Department of Tourism entered into a Memorandum of Understanding between the two departments to decisively deal with crime against tourists, both foreign and domestic.

Police have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

Those incidents, if not stopped, will be the end of tourism in the eastern part of the country, which includes Kruger  Also Gauteng is out and soon also the southern Cape will follow the same destiny 0*\

It seems as if they have become pretty organized O-/

Strategies to curb crimes against tourists
Various stakeholders have come together to deliberate on a plan to drastically reduce criminal acts against tourists.

MBOMBELA – The Mpumalanga Tourism Safety Steering Committee, consisting of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA), the private tourism sector, SAPS and the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, met during December to strategise on a plan of action for all relevant parties to lessen crimes committed against tourists in the province.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the National Police and Tourism Departments in order to launch the joint tourism safety strategy.

“The provincial tourism safety plan came into effect during this past festive season and will be reviewed in March 2020. The plan will see the SAPS implementing quick response and crime preventative measures to ensure that tourists visiting the province are safe and well taken care of,” said Brig Prince Ngobeni, the Nelspruit SAPS station commander.

“It is exciting to see a collaboration between government, private sector and the law enforcement agencies. This shows that by working together, we will be able to safeguard tourists visiting our province and ensure that they have a memorable stay. We will be able to combat all criminal activities and bring the perpetrators to book,” Johannes Nobunga, the CEO of the MTPA, said.

A recent incident involving the sexual assault and rape of a local tourist in Sabie prompted the Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism (KLCBT) to issue a R 50 000 award for information leading to the apprehension of the suspect.

“In the Lowveld, most of us are dependent on tourism for a livelihood, for jobs, and tourism establishments buy from other businesses again. It is a long value chain that needs to be protected. This is why we decided that some sort of intervention is required,” said Linda Grimbeek, COO of the KLCBT.

“Various initiatives were launched to improve the safety of tourists in the region. We would like to thank law enforcement and the KLCBT victim support volunteers who worked tirelessly and selflessly in their free time to assist tourists who have been victims of crime,” Grimbeek said.

Oupa Pilane, president of the KLCBT, added that his organisation is confident that the MTPA and SAPS plan will expedite the process of handling criminal cases committed against tourists. “We encourage all tourists to familiarise themselves with the various tourism safety tips to ensure that they have a safe stay.”

Anyone with information about the Sabie rape victim’s case may contact their nearest police station, or Capt Nkentshane Noppie on 079-499-8809, in strictest confidentiality.

Another victim of rape

Still to be seen O**

Did they have to go to a gran dinner to decide this or is a archive photo? I hope it's the latter.

and how are you going to do that? It would be great to hear some facts O**
"..We will be able to combat all criminal activities and bring the perpetrators to book,”
HOW?
............MTPA and SAPS plan will expedite the process of handling criminal cases committed against tourists.
Prevention would be much better. The tourists do not care about the handling of a crime already committed, they don't want to be assaulted, raped or abused and rubbed of their valuables!!!!!!

11 tourists robbed at gunpoint in Khayelitsha
2020-01-11 16:06

A 72-hour activation plan is in place to track down five men who robbed 11 tourists at gunpoint in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.

Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa, said the group of tourists had been visiting a Khayelitsha gardening project in Site C on Friday.

The tourists, understood to be from the United States, were accompanied by a local tour guide.

"Five armed men made their way into the premises of a school where [the tourists] were. The suspects, wearing reflector jackets, ordered the group into a vehicle and robbed them," said Potelwa.

The men made off with cameras, cellphones and wallets.

No one was injured.

"Khayelitsha detectives later visited the group at their hotel and took statements. Counselling services were offered."

Anyone who has information that can assist police in the investigation can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Then there is another reason for the above.....

After having packed so many times for so many different places it seems always to be the same nightmare: what to put where 0*\ and if the company loses my bag, then I must have this here and that there etc. when I was at the edge of a hysterical break down I made a decision: The clothes in one suitcase (carry on, because it is less heavy) and all the rest in the other. Whatever happens, that is the way it's going to be \O The other way around would be better, but the decision is taken! ............ and the laptop? @#$ =O:
