Maybe KZN should be asked to give more input here...it seems their community initiative is working...and they also have a border with Mozambique? -O-

And yes, their parks are smaller, and the border is smaller...

For months now been reading Sanpark's success rate
at anti rhino poaching attempt.

There seems a remarkable hit rate, ie,- arrests and
poachers mortality due to action undertaken by the
anti rhino squad. It would seem that this unit fulfills
a busy days work in recent past!!

Yet somehow not enough, for the poaching rate still
climbing ever closer too a 1000,..

Johannesburg - Nearly 1 000 rhino have been poached and 330 poachers arrested since the beginning of the year, the environmental affairs department said on Thursday.

"The total number of rhino poached in South Africa since January 2013 has increased to 946, as the number of people arrested for rhino poaching-related offences climbs to 330," the department said in a statement.

"Since the beginning of the year, 127 alleged poachers have been arrested in the Kruger National Park."

The Kruger continued to feel the brunt of rhino poaching, with 573 rhino killed for their horns since 1 January.

"Of the total number of rhino poached, 106 have been killed in Limpopo, 85 in Mpumalanga, 84 in KwaZulu-Natal and 82 in North West," the department said.

"South Africans and members of the international community are encouraged to report information regarding rhino poaching and related crimes to the anonymous tip-off lines 0800 205 005, 08600 10111, or Crime-Line on 32211."

In 2010, 333 rhino were poached in South Africa. This figure grew to 448 in 2011, and again to 668 last year.
