Roberts Bird Guide - 2nd Edition

Post by Dzombo »

Last November when I was in SA, I got myself a copy of Roberts Bird Guide - 2nd Edition

Am really imppressed
It is a standard field guide to the birds of SA, and so much more.
Drawings of all species, and some photos. Descriptions, distribution maps etc, all the usual
But then there is also good comparitive info/diagrams of similar species, and hard to id species.

Even if one has the "standard guides" (Sasol, Newmans etc), this one is well worth getting

Sounds good! \O

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.

I thought there had been multiple editions already, Dzombs!

Does it still have the Newman drawings?

I've got the 1st Edition and according to the credits Newman didn't do any of the illustrations. However, it was only published in 2007 and I'm sure Roberts has definitely been around a lot longer than that. -O-

I did some investigating and found this one which was published in 1940 but it wasn't called "Roberts". \O

The Roberts guides have chnaged from the format used in the 1982 (prob those before, after) with the plates followed by pages of text.
To the format used now.

I also have the large coffee table tome
