Mist + sea = Witsand!

Post by All-Nature »

O/\ NOTE: Using the forum photo upload O\/ - for this TT \O

 Phototbucket!!! ^0^

0/* We were not ready to go home
NOT in any hurry at all!! O**

After leaving Addo we decided as it had been such a pleasant drive all along the coast going up  OR is it down!! :-? 0-
We had missed some of the smaller places, therefore we would take this route going home as well!! :-0

We focused mainly on the Witsand area which was a first for us.
For those who may be interested ..0.. including a map for ease of reference =O:

First had to stop along the way, just before the Toll gate - a photo of the mountains, they were beautiful. O/\
IMG_7611.JPG
Then we stopped in Knysna for a bite to eat O**
IMG_7617.JPG
Who could have thought that 2 weeks later they would suffer such devastating fires on the 7th June 2017. :-(
IMG_7635.JPG
:-? There was a lot of low mist pockets all along the way to Witsand
IMG_8019.JPG
We reached our destination O\/
IMG_20170518_114816.jpg
We had rather a lot of mist during our stay :O^ but made the most of the sunshine when it came through. \O
Not sure during the summer months if it is very busy as it was so quiet when we were there -O-
Just up our street! O/\

There are only plus minus 300 permanent residents living there all year round, which includes Port Beaufort.
There was a fair number of holiday homes all nicely closed up O** presumably for the summer invasion! -O-

What a small place, A-N!

Near Knysna, you say? -O-

Didn't look that dry there yet, or maybe that is what dry time looks like in the Cape? X#X

Some areas in the Cape have had some rain however, not the normal winter rainfalls. :-(
I think it is a great place for fisherman O**

Flutterby according to the history it has been there for some time
=O: For once I can say L O N G before I was born!! O**

WHITE SANDS AND PORT BEAUFORT

WHITE SANDS
“White Sands” appeared on title deeds relating to a portion of the farm Westfield.
1832: Westfield homestead built.
1908: Over the years various people had erected accommodation next to the river mouth on stands obtained by the Moodie family of Westfield. The village of White Sands near Port Beaufort was laid out on that part of the farm Westfield called White Sands held by Benjamin and D.D. Moodie, under certificates of registered title dated December 30th.
1909: White Sands proclaimed a township.

If you care to read more around the history of Port Beaufort you can follow the link below. ;-)

:-) It is really a beautiful area and still unspoiled by humans
:ty: for your comment O0 and getting my grey matter working again lol

There are only 2 small shops where one can buy the most basic provisions -O-
Which is obviously at a price :O^

Next morning we woke up to thick mist, so decided to take a trip to Heidelberg, where there are more shopping facilities!
The sun was starting to burn away some of the dark thick mist and clouds O\/
If you did not know it was mist one would have thought it is going to rain any minute lol
IMG_6282.JPG
The tar road goes next to farms and there were some interesting birds and animals to be seen. O:V
There are many Ostrich farms along this stretch of road! O/\
Ostriches just where you look O:V
Here one can actually see it was very dry as they had to put feed and water out for them.
