Spent the day in the heart of Snowdonia at Plas Tan-Y-Bwlch in Maentwrog. Highlight of the organised day out looking for the wildlife that inhabit this special area were the Elephant Hawk-moths
Deilephila elpenor caught in the moth traps. They are stunning looking creatures and it was really great to get up close to these wonderful moths.
Elephant Hawk-moth.
More moths and other small creatures to come later.....

Lis, they feed exclusively on Great and Rosebay Willowherbs, so if you find the plants, you have a good chance of seeing them this time of year.

This Buff-tip Moth
Phalera bukephala uses it's camouflage to make it look like a broken Birch twig.

This afternoon I made a post about biodiversity and this is a perfect example. If the Great and Rosebay Willowherbs disappear, the moth will disappear too and who knows what else
