This "rule" has more iterations than any other I know. I have heard 600 and 500 before, now 400...BluTuna wrote:Details please

30 seconds (so you could say 450 rule
) @f2.8 and lots of ISO (one at 5000, the other at 8000). Light painting was done by shining a fairly powerful LED headlamp into the palm of my hand, reflecting onto the tree/bush. I have tried flash before, but found it way too powerful. Perhaps it can be used by reflecting or using ND filters though.Re: What gear do you have...

For the benefit of those who don't know what the 400 rule is...
600 rule for full frame, 400 for crop frame (those are the numbers I have heard).
Divide the lens focal length into the number to give the maximum time in seconds for the exposure without blurring the stars.

Peter I normally shoot at iso 6400 at 30 sec at 4.5, I like to go light, if it does and then bring it back down in photoshop, that way I know I will not get grain in the dark area,s
