JOHANNESBURG – Kruger National Park officials say that visitors to the reserve need to respect the animals following an incident where a woman pushed a lion out of the road with her vehicle.
The incident was reported on Thursday but the accused had left the scene before rangers could attend to the matter.
The park’s William Mabasa says the provocation angered the lion, causing it to scratch the car and chew on the bakkie’s tyres.
“Unfortunately, we got the report so late that when we sent somebody to the scene we couldn’t find her. We need to follow up on this woman because we can’t accept this behaviour.”
He has asked anyone with information to come forward.
Mabasa says if the woman is found, she will be fined and possibly banned from the park.
It’s not known whether the lion was injured in the incident.
