SUNDAY 15 JULY 2007.
Went to Didcott Railway to have a look around. Very interesting and even got to drive a steam train for a few minutes.
MONDAY 16 JULY 2007.
Caught a train from London to Edinburgh where we hired a car and then went to my friend - also Richard and also a steam train fan - and spent the night with him. Richard is a driver for Virgin Trains so went with him on a return trip from Edinburgh to Aberdeen. This view from the train on the way to Aberdeen.
Got back home at about midnight.
Richards house overlooks the Forth Bridges - the old railway bridge and the newish road bridge.
Woke up in the morning to this view.
TUESDAY 17 JULY 2007.
Left Richards place at 10:00 and drove up to Invermoriston in the Scottish Highlands. Beautiful views of lochs and mountains.
About to cross the Forth Bridge.
Some pics taken along the way to Invermoriston.
A view from our bedroom window at our B&B
WEDNESDAY 18 JULY 2007.
Drove to Isle of Skye via the Skye Bridge to our B&B near Portree.
Saw these flags at an hotel on the road.
Skye Bridge scanned from a postcard thus the rather grainy picture.
To be continued.

Thanks very much B.C. - I was in my element driving that steamer.
The scenery was stunning. I have had great difficulty in choosing which photos to put on this thread.nan wrote:great in a Stream train

Re: OUR OVERSEAS TRIP 2007 ENGLAND CANADA SCOTLAND
Isle of Skye continued.
WEDNESDAY 18 JULY 2007.
Having crossed the Skye Bridge we were into the Isle of Skye. Covering an area of 1656 sq kms we could drive around the whole island in a day but decided to take it slowly and enjoy all the fabulous scenery. We had booked into a B&B just outside Portree , the main town on this island.
Here are a selection of photos of our stay.
One of the many mountain streams one crosses.
We stopped at a viewpoint for Mealt Waterfall and Kilt Rock. In the scan from a postcard below you will that the rock face in the background resembles the folds in a kilt - thus the name. The waterfall is 55 metres high and plunges straight into the sea. On very windy days the water gets blown back up the cliff and does not reach the sea. Fortunately on the day we were there, there was not a breath of wind.
My photo of the waterfall - I did not realise the significance of the rocks at that time.
Joan and the Kilt Rocks.
The scenery along this road was awesome resulting in us stopping every now and again to admire the view.
Spot the sheep grazing way down near the bottom.
Some highland cows near the edge of the cliff.
Portree Harbour.
Another view of Portree harbour with some colourful buildings.
Another view of Portree from the lawns of the Cuillin Hills Hotel where we had stopped for lunch.
The view from our bedroom window at 23:00.
THURSDAY 19 JULY 2007.
Had to be up at 06:00 in order to catch the first ferry from Armadale to Mallaig.
Waiting in the queue at Armadale for the ferry. Note the poster on the back window of our hire car.
We only wish we had spent more time on this wonderful island with the very friendly folk living there. We were quite envious of the sedate life these

Thanks very much nan. The Isle of Skye is one magnificent place to be.nan wrote:nice waterfall and Highland Cows

Hi Flutterby. Thanks for the lovely comments. We fell in love with those Highland Cows so we bought a fluffy toy that when you squeeze it , it goes "Mooooo" Drives our Jack Russell banannas when we play with it. That sign on the back worked a treat. Not once did we get hooted at or the finger for driving too slowly. In fact folk often asked, especially if we had stopped, if they could be help us.Flutterby wrote:Beautiful scenery and love those highland cows.
