Another day, another Rooiputs sunrise, some more photos of the same, well no, never the same, always special
Especially when you are 6 months later, sitting in front of a computer instead of the real thing
We drove north and at Kij Kij we came across a whole lot of lion spoor on the road, heading up onto the lower dune road
Hoping our lion luck would change, we followed to spoor, full of anticipation for abour 500m before they disappeared
We turned around at Tierkop and set off for coffee and rusks at Melkvlei
Just before Melkvlei, there is a cutting where the gemsbok often lick the sand to pick up the minerals they need.
Today they were all out (seeing that the lions weren’t )

Along with the gemsbok, this slender mongoose was out foraging on the ridge
And on the way back we had a really special wildebeest sighting

We had a relaxed day back at Rooiputs just relaxing and chatting to fellow Rooiputs residents before the compulsory evening drive
The evening drive provided this tortoise sighting
And a pic of the way home
The lions were roaring in the distance that night

BEFs drinking at the waterhole... so very cool. Never seen them doing that and am very jealous of that sigthting
Even if the brownie and the caracal were a short sightings - always one of the nicer encounters.
And I so love the mongoose capture

We weren’t too sure as to where the roaring lions that we had heard during the night were, but we were really happy just to hear them, even if they were really far off
It was our last full day in the park.
As usual, we headed north to Kij Kij, and today, after two full weeks in the park our lion drought was finally broken
A lioness was approaching the waterhole, and another lioness and a male were following her to the waterhole

We had a super sighting of the trio drinking, and up front I must apologize for the number of photos you are about to be bombarded with, I just can’t help it. Sorry

Once they had quenched their thirsts, they carried on towards the dunes on the Botswana side of the riverbed
The one female left first, followed a little later by the other two.
